  • Development Assistant

    $50/hour; Contractor; San Francisco, CA; Hybrid

    We are seeking an assistant to aid in our organizations’s fundraising, donor stewardship, and membership support efforts. This role includes grant research, writing, and management support, fundraising event and collateral support, donor and member communications, donor database and membership management, and related executive support.

    This is a hybrid role that requires one day per week (5-8 hours) on-site at our headquarters in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco or on location as applicable. Additional hours (10-15 per week total, with potential to increase over time) may be remote or on-site, as desired.

  • Print Shop Assistant

    $35/hour; Contractor; San Francisco, CA; On-Site

    We are seeking an individual to manage the equipment and orders placed in our print shop. This role includes operating and maintaining professional printers, preparing design files using professional programs such as Adobe Suite, color checking, stock management, trimming prints, and managing packaging and fulfillment.

    As a low quantity print shop focused on limited runs and internal programs, we anticipate an average of 5-10 hours per week, with the potential to increase in the future.

    Schedule is flexible but must be on-site at our headquarters in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco.

  • Community Content Assistant

    $35/hour; Contractor; San Francisco, CA; Hybrid

    We are seeking an assistant to aid in our organizations’s newsletter and social media communications. This role includes scheduling posts, managing timelines and comms schedules, drafting captions, and leading engagement efforts across our social platforms (primarily LinkedIn, FloDesk, and Instagram). It also involves drafting newsletters and website updates, as well as organizing and preparing content for community sharing, as well as basic photo documentation or content creation as needed. It does not require social media strategy or graphic development, for which templates will be provided.

    This is a hybrid role that requires one day per week (5-8 hours) on-site at our headquarters in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco or on location as applicable. Additional hours (5-10 per week total, with potential to increase over time) may be remote or on-site, as desired.

  • Short Story Submissions

    $1000; 1500-2000 words

    We are seeking submissions of fictional short stories focused on the following themes, to be featured in an upcoming Clubhouse season:

    • Openness

    • Complexity or interconnectedness in nature

    • Biomedical futures

    Stories may be any genre and must not have been previously published. Stories should be in line with the mission and values of The Plenary, which includes nonpartisanship. You must own all rights to the work. If selected, you will retain copyrights to your work.

  • Accessibility Consultant

    $30/hour; 5-10 hours/month; Contractor; Remote

    Review our digital materials, in particular the I Am A Scientist program, for accessibility gaps. Manage captions, alt text, and accessible design options for new resources on a rolling basis. Make recommendations and implement solutions as needed.

Interested in supporting our mission by donating your professional services or expertise? As an organization, we believe in providing fair compensation for work and wisdom. We also recognize that sometimes people are moved by an organization's vision, and want to help. As a small nonprofit, we welcome and deeply appreciate qualified professional support when it's offered.

  • Legal Support

    • Reviewing and managing contracts and agreements with artists, employees, contractors, and partners

    • Advising on Terms & Conditions for membership and websites

    • Advising on insurance and legal best practices for events

  • Compliance Support

    • Filing annual and quarterly State and Federal reports and modification requests

    • Working with our bookkeeper to file Sales & Use tax reports

    • Managing State registrations for remote employees

    • Managing State registrations and reporting for soliciting donations

  • Technical Support

    • Creating and managing optimized mobile-friendly versions of The Plenary, Co., Membership, and / or I Am a Scientist sites

    • Maintaining and improving The Plenary, Co., Membership, and / or I Am a Scientist desktop sites

    • Development of app for streaming services, such as Roku and Apple TV
